Md Khadimul Islam. A Dhaka-based political journalist with New Age (English) covering the activities of the Awami League. Serves as general secretary of the Reporters’ Forum for Elections and Democracy, a professional body. Plans to research media coverage of climate change.

Bhutan

Chencho Wangdi. Deputy Editor of the Dzongkha-language edition of Kuensel, a national newspaper. Responsible for developing a team of Dzongkha reporters who can produce their own stories instead of simply translating from the English edition. Wants to study the role of news in democracy.

China

Fan Ming. Beijing-based CCTV senior producer working on “News Probe”, an investigative news programme. Has won national awards for her documentaries. Plans to research TV interview shows.

Shen Yuan-an. Covers the movie industry for the influential Guangzhou Daily. Has published a book on China’s movie industry. Wants to research Singapore film.

Hong Kong

Agnes Lam. Local news reporter for South China Morning Post interested studying Singapore’s handling of drug abuse.

Indonesia

Feby Indrani. Journalist with Business Week Indonesia (Bahasa Indonesia) in Jakarta. Wants to study Singapore’s creative industries.

India

Madhumita Datta. A senior journalist with Aajkal, a Bengali-language newspaper in Kolkata. Team leader for 50 reporters and in charge of newspaper’s website. Wants to study cyberterrorism.

Pal Chauhan Chanchal. Auto and aviation industry correspondent for Economic Times, based in New Delhi. Interested in Singapore’s transport policies.

Malaysia

Chee Yoke Heong. Editor with Third World Network, an international NGO based in Kuala Lumpur that focuses on development and social justice. Two-time winner of ADB Institute’s journalism awards. Interested in studying FTAs.

Myanmar

Nwet Kay Khine. A writer for Living Color Media. Has won fellowships and other training awards from South East Asia Press Alliance, US Embassy and other organisations. Wants to study the role of new media in a transitional democracy.

Nepal

Guna Raj Luitel. An associate editor with Nagarik Daily (Nepalese), Kathmandu, in charge of around 100 journalists. Also writes for its English-language sister paper, Republica. Wants to study the role of journalism in transitional and post-conflict societies.

Philippines

Gallardo Froilan. Photo/video editor for Mindanews, a community news website run as a journalists’ cooperative in Mindanao. Wants to document the new breed of Filipino immigrants in Singapore.

Pakistan

Raza Ali. News Editor of Ibrat Daily (Sindhi), Sindh province. Starting a new magazine for his company. Also a lawyer involved in human rights work. Wants to study the role of journalism in democratic society.

Singapore

Lyn Chan. Head of the multimedia creative team for RazorTV, the web TV arm of The Straits Times. Nominated by Singapore Press Holdings. Plans to study the business aspects of media convergence.

Sri Lanka

Shifan Ahmed. Director and producer with Young Asia Television, which produces programmes on peace and conflict resolution. Wants to work on a video documentary on multiracialism in Singapore.

Thailand

Raksaseri Kornchanok. Reporter for The Nation (English), covering politics and other national issues. Also contributes to the Nation Group’s TV station. Plans to research matchmaking services in Singapore.

Vietnam

Khieu Thi Ngoc Lan. Reporter for Thanh Nien Daily Newspaper (Vietnamese), Hanoi. Also edits and manages the company’s sports and entertainment publication. Wants to study journalism and democratisation.
