Huy Anh Nguyen (Han), Digital Project Manager, Vietnam Television, Hanoi. Han manages a team to produce social media content in English and Vietnamese for VTV4. They reach Vietnamese-interested audiences in over 100 countries. His expertise expanded to national social campaigns, data journalism, and digital copyright. He’s also an advocate for media literacy, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region.

2023

Hong Van, Journalist, Tuoi Tre Newspaper, Ho Chi Minh City. Van was hooked on journalism at 12, when she won a competition that led to her hosting a children’s radio show for six years. A journalist for nine years, she is now an award-winning feature writer focusing mainly on health, climate change and environmental issues. She is also interested in promoting gender balance in the newsroom.

2022

Phan Hong Nhung, Reporter/Sub-Editor & News Anchor, Vietnam News Agency, Hanoi. Nhung reports, edits and translates for the VNA website, and is presenter for its foreign service bulletin. She is eager to learn new skills in multimedia, step out of her comfort zone, and advance in journalism. Her interests are reading and travelling.

2021

Pham Thu Huong, Reporter/Sub-Editor, Vietnam News Agency, Hanoi. Huong wanted to be a journalist after seeing a Chinese movie about a female journalist who shared her name. She has gone on to win awards for her reports on the victims of Agent Orange, freedom of religion and the fight against illiteracy. She  enjoys travelling and reading.

2018

Khanh Van is a senior reporter with Viet Nam News, Vietnam’s main English-language newspaper and part of the official Vietnam News Agency. Van is now delivering breaking news for both online and the print, covering various aspects, including politics, social affairs and environment. Her research project is on environmental pollution and public health, and she hopes to draw some lessons from Singapore for her country. Van likes reading, travelling and listening to music.

2017

Hoang Mi worked as a writer and editor with Science and Technology Information Magazine in Ho Chi Minh City before switching to being a freelance contributor and editor in 2016. She was a researcher in the food industry before making a switch to journalism in 2009 and remains excited about the science and tech beat. Her AJF project will focus on how universities and R&D centres in Singapore transfer technology to companies.

Le Nam. Senior Reporter, Tuoi Tre newspaper, Ho Chi Minh City. Le Nam was a tour guide and history teacher before switching to journalism 17 years ago and now wishes he had made the change sooner. He wants to find out why so many Vietnamese come to Singapore for medical treatment, and will be examining various aspects of medical tourism.
